When you think of space food, you might imagine astronauts squeezing puréed carrot out of things resembling toothpaste tubes. Not exactly yummy. Thankfully the boffins at NASA have managed to come up with something a whole lot more appetising.

This pack of freeze-dried banana pieces is a tasty treat in suspended animation. As you eat, your mouth rehydrates the fruit, restoring it to its original state. The banana pieces packed a real banana-y punch.

Freeze-dried food can be stored for years without refrigeration as long as you keep them in an airtight container.
